GRADING SYSTEM IN HUNGARY

In Hungary, a credit system based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is used to assess the performance of the students.
One credit represents 30 hours of student workload. The method of evaluation for students is based on the written and oral examinations, assignments and course work etc.

The evaluation of knowledge and performance is done on the basis of five-grade scale; 5 being the best mark, 1 meaning fail.

  • 5 - Jeles (Excellent):
Equivalent to an 'A', indicating outstanding performance and mastery of the subject matter.
  • 4 - Jó (Good):
Equivalent to a 'B', denoting above-average performance with a strong understanding of the material.
  • 3 - Közepes (Satisfactory):
Equivalent to a 'C' or a 'D', indicating satisfactory performance with a basic understanding of the material.
  • 2 - Elégséges (Pass):
Equivalent to a 'D' or 'E', signifying a minimum level of performance required for passing the course.
  • 1 - Elégtelen (Fail):
Equivalent to an 'F', indicating insufficient performance and failure to meet the minimum requirements for passing.
